이번 주에는 남편의 고모님이 잠시 방문하셨어요. 점심을 대접해드리기로 했는데, 간단하면서도 맛있고 손님 초대용으로 좋은 메뉴가 뭐가 있을까 고민하다가 **“스키야키(Sukiyaki)”**를 준비하기로 했답니다!스키야키는 일본식 소고기 전골 요리로, 달콤하고 짭조름한 다시 육수가 특징이에요. 여기에 생달걀을 풀어서 고기를 찍어 먹는 게 포인트인데, 그 고소함이 정말 환상적이에요. 🤎재료만 있다면 준비는 아주 간단하답니다. 레시피 공유해 드릴게요!
This week, my husband’s aunt came to visit us for lunch! I wanted to make something that’s simple yet elegant, easy to prepare but still feels special — so I decided to make Sukiyaki, a Japanese-style hot pot dish.Sukiyaki has a sweet and savory broth made with soy sauce and mirin, and it’s typically served with a raw egg that you dip the cooked meat into. It might sound unusual, but trust me — it adds a rich, creamy flavor that makes everything taste even better. 🤎
Napa cabbage, shiitake mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, carrots, green onions, thinly sliced beef, tofu, konjac noodles, udon noodles (+ Spinach side dish — my husband made spinach sesame namul!)
🍲 Broth Ingredients
다시마 2장, 가쓰오부시 한 줌, 진간장 ½컵, 맛술 ½컵, 설탕 3큰술, 물 4컵
4 cups water, 2 sheets kombu (kelp), a handful of bonito flakes, ½ cup soy sauce, ½ cup mirin, 3 tbsp sugar
Make the Broth
냄비에 물 4컵과 다시마를 넣고 끓이다가, 끓기 시작하면 가쓰오부시를 넣고 약 10분 정도 우려냅니다.
체에 걸러 맑은 육수만 남겨둡니다.
다시 냄비에 육수 2컵, 맛술 반 컵, 진간장 반 컵, 설탕 3큰술을 넣고 끓여 소스를 완성해요.
In a pot, bring water and kombu to a boil.
Once boiling, add bonito flakes and simmer for about 10 minutes.
Strain the broth and return to the pot.
Add soy sauce, mirin, and sugar, then bring to a gentle boil.
Prepare the ingredients:
야채는 깨끗이 씻어 한입 크기로 썰고, 두부도 큼직하게 자릅니다. 곤약은 찬물에 담가 한 번 헹궈서 준비해 주시면 좋아요.
Wash and slice the vegetables into bite-sized pieces. Cut tofu into cubes.
이렇게 준비가 끝나면 소고기 우지를 넣고 기름을 낸뒤 거기에 먼저 대파를 넣고 볶아서 향을 내줍니다. 거기에 두부도 살짝 노릇하게 구워주고, 고기와 야채들을 예쁘게 넣어준 뒤 만들어놓은 소스를 부어서 천천히 보글보글 끓여줍니다.
In a large skillet or shallow pot, heat a little beef tallow (or oil), sauté green onions for aroma, and lightly sear the tofu. Arrange the vegetables and beef beautifully in the pot, pour in the sauce, and let it simmer gently.
Dip the cooked meat and vegetables into a lightly beaten raw egg — it’s creamy, nutty, and so comforting.
짜잔! 맛있겠죠? 이제 다 익은 고기와 야채, 두부 등을 건져서 풀어놓은 생계란에 살짝 찍어먹으면 됩니다. 고소하고 달콤하고 너무너무 맛있어요! 춥고 비오는 오늘같은 날씨에는 정말 스키야키 같은 전골요리가 제격이에요.
마무리는 달콤한 일본식 디저트로 준비했어요. 모찌와 롤케익인데 고모도 너무 맛있게 식사하시고 디저트까지 다 야무지게 드셨답니다. 우리 리오도 너무 좋아했어요. 손님초대 준비 중이시라면 스키야키 어떠세요? 간단하면서 맛있고, 온가족이 다 즐겁게 먹을 수 있는 완벽한 메뉴에요.
It was the perfect meal for a rainy day — cozy, flavorful, and comforting. ☔️ For dessert, I prepared some Japanese sweets — mochi and a slice of roll cake. My husband’s aunt loved the meal, and Leo enjoyed it so much too! 💛

This week, we’re in Los Angeles, the city where I spent most of my 20s and 30s. LA is my hometown at heart — it’s where my parents live and where so many memories were made and where me & David met.
I came back this time to help take care of my dad during his eye surgery (which went well! 🙏) and to spend some precious time with my parents and Leo. Between hospital visits and family time, I also revisited a few of my favorite LA spots that always make me feel nostalgic. I’d love to share them with you.

이번에는 아빠의 눈 수술을 돕기 위해 방문했어요 (다행히 수술은 아주 잘 되셨어요! 🙏), 그리고 부모님과 레오와 함께 오랜만에 가족 시간을 보냈답니다. 병원과 집을 오가며 잠깐씩 짬이 날 때, 예전의 추억이 가득한 제가 가장 좋아하는 LA 장소들도 다시 방문했어요. 오늘은 그 이야기를 나눠볼게요.
📍 The Roof — EDITION Hotel
I absolutely love this place. It’s a rooftop bar at the EDITION Hotel on Sunset Blvd with a stunning panoramic view of LA. The hotel itself is beautifully designed — high ceilings, marble floors, dark wooden furniture, and rich velvet green curtains in the lobby. Even the lobby scent is dreamy. When you walk in, you feel like you are in Hollywood movie.
Once you go up to the rooftop, you’re greeted with a breathtaking view and a chic bar area that’s perfect for golden hour drinks. I used to bring friends here whenever they visited LA, and every single time, it was magical.
✨ My order this time: ceviche and a chicken sandwich — both were delicious. 🍸 Cocktails here are amazing, and the dessert menu is worth trying too (especially the ceviche, if you love fresh flavors).

This is my go-to spot for picking up gifts for friends and family. The interior and packaging design always remind me of Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel — colorful, whimsical, and elegant.
I love admiring the pastry display — all the cakes and desserts look like little art pieces. My favorite thing to buy here is their beautifully packaged chocolates and sweets. They’re a little pricey, but totally worth it.
The only downside? I’ve noticed their gift selection getting smaller each time I visit, which makes me a little sad. 😢

Of course, no LA trip is complete without stopping by this iconic photo spot. I’ve passed by LACMA so many times before, but this time I finally went to take pictures with Leo.
We arrived around 6 PM, just in time for that perfect pink sky backdrop. Leo and I played hide-and-seek between the lamp posts, and he had the best time. I love how the photos captured his joy so naturally.
📸 Tip: If you’re not planning to visit the museum itself, try to find nearby street parking. The parking lot costs $23 for the day, even if you only stay an hour.
LA의 대표적인 포토 스팟이죠. 전에는 늘 그냥 지나치기만 했는데, 이번엔 레오와 함께 사진을 찍으러 일부러 들렀어요.
저녁 6시쯤 도착했는데, 하늘이 핑크빛으로 물들면서 사진 찍기 딱 좋은 타이밍이었어요. 레오와 함께 가로등 사이를 숨바꼭질하며 놀았는데, 레오가 너무 즐거워했어요. 사진 속 레오의 표정이 정말 자연스럽고 행복하게 담겨서 마음이 따뜻해졌답니다.

One of the most popular outdoor shopping malls in the heart of LA, The Grove is the perfect place to soak in that classic LA vibe. 🌴✨ At the center of the mall, there’s a beautiful fountain, surrounded by chic restaurants and stylish shops that make it such a fun place to stroll around.
If you’re visiting with kids, don’t miss the trolley ride — it’s a charming little experience that makes the day even more special for families. 💛

📍 Erewhon
Probably the most hyped grocery store in LA — and for good reason! This time, I visited the Grove location, which felt a bit more spacious and relaxed compared to the Silverlake one.
If you go, you have to try their famous smoothies. Yes, they’re about $19–20 each (!!) but honestly, totally worth the hype. I tried the Hailey Bieber Strawberry Glaze Smoothie and the Malibu Mango Smoothie, and both were absolutely delicious. 🍓🥭
Erewhon is also known for its health supplements and clean-living lifestyle products, and I always end up browsing their shelves for way too long. Their merch is another favorite of mine — simple, minimal, and effortlessly stylish. This time, I picked up a 20oz tumbler and a bag of Erewhon coffee to try at home.
And can we talk about the people there? Everyone shopping at Erewhon looks so effortlessly chic — I love people-watching and getting little fashion inspo while sipping on my smoothie. ✨

It’s getting cold and rainy here in Seattle, and I’ve been loving the crisp air and the beautiful autumn leaves. With this weather, I always start craving warm, hearty soups that keep me and my family cozy and healthy. So today, I decided to make Galbi Tang (Korean Short Rib Soup) — my ultimate Korean soul food for chilly days.
시애틀의 날씨가 점점 쌀쌀하고 비가 오는 계절이 다가왔어요. 차가운 공기와 선명하게 물든 낙엽들을 정말 좋아하는데, 이런 날씨에는 자연스럽게 따뜻한 국물 요리가 생각나더라고요. 그래서 오늘은 가족 모두를 따뜻하게 해줄 갈비탕을 끓이기로 했습니다. 🧡
한국인의 소울푸드 갈비탕… 이거 하나면 추운 날씨도 거뜬히 버틸 수 있어요!
🥩 Step 1: Prepare the Galbi
For Galbi Tang, you need short ribs with the bone — that’s what gives the broth its deep, rich umami flavor. I picked up a pack from Costco, and it looked perfect!
Soak the galbi in cold water for about 1 hour to draw out any blood or impurities. Then, boil the ribs in a pot of water with 1 or 2 TSP of Cooking Sake for 5–10 minutes. This helps remove any leftover impurities and keeps the broth clean. Drain and rinse the ribs once again.
갈비탕에는 뼈가 붙은 소갈비가 꼭 필요해요. 그래야 국물이 깊고 진한 감칠맛이 납니다. 저는 코스트코에서 좋은 갈비를 득템했어요 😎
먼저 갈비를 찬물에 1시간 정도 담가 핏물과 불순물을 빼주세요.
그다음 팔팔 끓는 물에 청주 한 두 테이블스푼을 넣고 갈비를 5~10분 정도 데친 후, 물을 버리고 고기를 한 번 깨끗하게 헹궈줍니다.
이 과정을 거치면 국물이 훨씬 맑고 깔끔해져요!
🍲 Step 2: Make the Broth
Place the cleaned short ribs back into a large pot with 4 liters of water. Bring it to a boil over high heat, then reduce to medium heat and simmer for about 1 hour. While it’s boiling, make sure to skim off any foam that rises to the top — this step is key to getting a clear, deep broth.
깨끗이 손질한 갈비를 큰 냄비에 넣고 물 4리터를 부어주세요. 센 불에서 먼저 끓이다가 물이 끓기 시작하면 중불로 줄여 1시간 정도 푹 끓입니다.
끓는 동안 **거품(불순물)**이 올라오면 바로 걷어내야 국물이 깨끗하고 깊어져요.
🧄 Step 3: Add the Flavors
Prepare:
Korean radish (mu) 🥬
10 cloves of garlic 🧄
The root part of an Asian leek (or green onion)
Add them into the pot and simmer for another 30 minutes. Once done, remove the meat, radish, garlic, and leek. Season the broth to taste with Korean soup soy sauce and a bit of fish sauce. 👉 Tip: Don’t season too early while the meat is cooking — soy sauce can make the meat tough.

대파 뿌리 부분 (또는 대파 통째로)
이 재료들을 냄비에 넣고 30분 더 끓여줍니다. 다 끓인 후에는 고기, 무, 마늘, 대파를 건져내고, 국간장과 액젓으로 간을 맞추세요.
👉 주의: 간장은 고기를 끓일 때 넣지 마세요. 고기가 질겨질 수 있어요.
🍜 Step 4: Noodles & Serving
I love enjoying Galbi Tang with dangmyeon (Korean glass noodles). Soak the noodles in room temperature water for about 30 minutes, then drain. Place the noodles in the bottom of your serving bowl, ladle in the hot soup, and top with the short ribs, radish, and chopped green onions.
Optional but highly recommended: Dip the short ribs in soy sauce with a little wasabi — it’s so good!

Galbi Tang is so much easier to make than you might think, and it’s unbelievably comforting. It warms your body and soul, making those cold Seattle days feel a little cozier.

It’s officially pumpkin season in Seattle! 🍂 The mornings and evenings are getting chilly, but the daytime still feels warm and cozy. You can see autumn all around — the colorful leaves, crisp air, and that golden sunlight that makes everything feel magical.
I love pumpkin season, so we decided to visit Carpinito Brothers Farm in Kent for our very first pumpkin patch with Leo.
시애틀에도 어느새 펌킨 시즌이 왔어요! 🍂 아침과 저녁은 쌀쌀하지만 낮에는 따뜻하고 포근한 햇살이 비추는 요즘, 거리 곳곳에 물든 단풍과 차가운 공기 속에서 가을이 성큼 다가온 걸 느낄 수 있었어요.
가을이 되면 꼭 하고 싶은 일이 하나 있죠 — 바로 펌킨 패치 🎃 그래서 이번에는 Kent에 있는 Carpinito Brothers Farm으로 Leo와 함께 우리 가족의 첫 펌킨 패치 나들이를 다녀왔어요.

🍊 Pumpkin Patch Fun
Right at the entrance, we were greeted by the award-winning giant pumpkins — some weighed over 2,000 lbs! I was amazed by their size.
Inside the farm, there were so many different kinds of pumpkins — from tiny mini jacks to huge, round ones in all kinds of colors and shapes. You grab a cart, pick your favorites, and stroll around the field taking cute family photos.
We picked a bunch of beautiful pumpkins and took lots of photos with Leo at the photo props. He had so much fun picking his own pumpkins — and even took a bunch of photos himself with my digital camera and phone! The pictures turned out so cute. I love how artistic he is already. 📸
입구에 들어서자마자 수상 경력 있는 초대형 펌킨들이 전시되어 있었어요. 무려 2,000파운드(약 900kg)가 넘는 펌킨들도 있었는데, 정말 놀라웠어요! 😲
농장 안에는 크기와 색깔, 모양이 모두 다른 펌킨들이 가득했어요. 작은 미니잭부터 크고 둥근 주황색 펌킨까지, 마음에 드는 펌킨을 카트에 담고 농장을 걸으며 사진을 찍을 수 있었어요.
우리는 예쁜 펌킨을 골라 담고, 포토존에서 가족 사진을 잔뜩 찍었어요. Leo는 직접 고른 펌킨을 꼭 안고 다니며 신이 나 있었고, 디지털 카메라와 제 휴대폰으로 스스로 사진을 찍기도 했어요! 사진들이 너무 귀엽게 나와서 정말 감탄했어요 — 작은 예술가 같았어요 📸
🌽 Farmer’s Market & Snacks
After leaving the pumpkin patch area, we stopped by the huge farmer’s market next to the farm. All the fresh produce looked amazing, so we ended up shopping a lot for the week.
There were also food stands selling roasted corn and hot dogs, and of course, we couldn’t resist. We had two corns and two hot dogs to share — the corn was especially delicious! Leo loved it so much that he ate an entire one by himself. It was so cute watching him hold the big corn tightly and take big bites with his tiny mouth.
펌킨 패치를 나와서 들른 곳은 커다란 파머스 마켓이었어요. 갓 수확한 채소들이 싱싱하게 진열되어 있었고, 일주일치 장을 든든하게 볼 수 있었어요 🥕
마켓 옆에는 구운 옥수수와 핫도그를 파는 푸드트럭이 있었는데, 우리는 결국 두 개씩 시켜서 나눠 먹었어요. 특히 구운 옥수수가 정말 맛있었어요! Leo는 옥수수 하나를 혼자 다 먹을 정도로 좋아했어요 🌽 작은 손으로 커다란 옥수수를 꼭 잡고 한입씩 베어무는 모습이 정말 귀여웠어요.

Our pumpkin patch adventure was so much fun, and we’ll definitely go again next year. It was the perfect little family outing, and watching Leo enjoy every moment made it even more special.
Now our front door is decorated with all the pumpkins we picked, and it looks so festive and cozy every time I come home.
