Last weekend, we went and visited Seattle Aquarium. We were all excited for the new renovated aquarium. It was a such a fun family outing.

지난 주말, 가족 모두가 기대하던 시애틀 아쿠아리움(Seattle Aquarium)에 다녀왔어요.
리노베이션된 새로운 아쿠아리움이 오픈했다고 해서 정말 설레는 마음으로 출발했습니다.
오랜만에 가족끼리 즐거운 주말 나들이였어요.

We purchased the annual pass for $145 (covers 2 adults) — and it also gives you 50% off guest tickets, which is honestly a great deal if you go more than twice.

Parking:
We prepaid online and paid only $12 for 6 hours. The parking lot is located right by Pike Place Market, so it was super convenient.

주차는 온라인으로 미리 결제했어요.
6시간에 $12밖에 안 하고, 주차장이 Pike Place Market 바로 옆이라 접근성이 정말 좋았어요.

🐠 New Aquarium Building

The Seattle Aquarium now has two buildings — the newly built one and the original space.

The moment we walked into the new building, we were greeted by a massive floor-to-ceiling tank filled with sea creatures. It was dramatic, beautiful, and honestly breathtaking.

On the second floor, I loved the ergonomic and immersive tank design in the center of the space. There were three big tropical tanks filled with colorful fish and coral-like decorations. The height was perfect for kids — short enough that Leo could watch everything without being held.

Behind the main wall, there was another giant tank with sharks swimming peacefully. The shark would glide past the window and “surprise” all the little kids sitting in front of it. Leo kept squealing every time it came close. It was very cool to see a shark that close.

There was also a small play area for kids with sea-creature toys and educational displays. Leo sat there for a long time, totally focused.

현재 아쿠아리움은

   이렇게 두 군데로 운영되고 있어요.

새 건물에 들어서자마자 바닥부터 천장까지 이어진 거대한 수족관이 저희를 맞아줬어요.
정말 웅장하고 아름다워서 순간 말이 안 나올 정도였어요.

2층 중앙에는 아이들도 보기 편한 높이로 설계된 열대어 수족관 3개가 있었는데,
형형색색의 열대어들이 천천히 헤엄치는 모습이 너무 아름다웠어요.
Leo도 높이가 딱 맞아서 안아줄 필요 없이 혼자서 오랫동안 집중해서 볼 수 있었어요.

벽 뒤쪽으로 가면 상어가 헤엄치는 대형 수족관이 또 있어요!
상어가 유유히 헤엄치다가 창가 바로 앞으로 다가오는 순간,
앉아 있던 아이들이 깜짝 놀라서 소리 지르는데 너무 귀엽고 재미있었어요.
Leo도 상어가 가까이 오자 계속 “와아아!” 하면서 좋아했답니다.

그리고 아이들이 앉아서 놀 수 있는 작은 플레이존도 있었어요.
바다 생물 장난감과 교육용 모형이 있어서 Leo가 한참 동안 자리를 떠나지 않더라고요.

🐙 Original Aquarium Building

After exploring the new building, we headed over to the old one — I’ve been there before, so I had an idea of what to expect.

Leo’s favorite, of course, was the touch tide pools, where kids can touch starfish, sea urchins, and 해삼. He climbed up and leaned forward so excitedly, saying “또! 또!” every time he touched something. It was adorable.

Our favorite was the giant octopus. It was huge — I’ve never seen an octopus that big in my life. Watching it move slowly with its long eight legs and massive suction cups was mesmerizing. Leo got a little scared and ran away, which honestly made us laugh. 😂

The first building also had more marine mammals. We watched a giant seal swimming gracefully and some adorable sea otters enjoying their lunch. They were eating big scallops and begging for more — so cute.
The highlight was the river otter, swimming energetically and coming right up to the glass as if saying hello.

첫번째 관에는 더 다양한 동물들을 볼 수 있어서 좋았어요. 리오는 터치 풀이 역시 제일 재밌나 보더라구요. 거기서는 다양한 바다 생물들 – 해삼, 불가사리, 성게 등을 만져볼 수 있어요. 우리는 거대한 Seal 이 유유자적 수영하는 모습을 보고, 귀여운 sea otters 가 맛잇게 점심 식사를 하는 모습도 볼 수 있었어요. 커다란 가리비 조개를 주던데 한입에 쩝쩝 열심히 더 달라고 하는 모습이 너무 귀엽더라구요. 마지막 하이라이트는 강에 사는 otter 의 수영하는 귀여운 모습. 열심히 수영하면서 우리에게 가까이 와서 얼굴을 보여주는게 사람들의 관심에 꽤 익숙한 것 같았어요.

🛒 Gift Shop

Of course, we had to stop by the gift shop before leaving.
We bought a set of colorful ocean-themed bath toys for Leo, and he loved pointing out each animal he saw earlier in the aquarium.

나와서 빼놓을 수 없는 기념품 가게에 들려 리오가 좋아할만한 알록달록한 해양동물들 토이를 샀어요. 리오가 오늘 아쿠아리움에서 본 동물들을 보면서 이름을 하나하나 불러주며 가지고 놀더라구요. Bath Toys 로 딱인거같아요.

🍽 Lunch at Pike Place

Since the aquarium is located right below Pike Place Market, there are so many food options.

We went to Mr. Fish, a Fish & Chips place, and everything was delicious — very crispy, very flavorful… and also very salty 😂 But overall, we enjoyed it.

아쿠아리움은 파이크 플레이스 마켓 바로 아래에 위치해 있어서 식사하기에 옵션이 아주 많아요. 저희는 MR.FISH라는 Fish & Chips 전문점에 가서 점심을 먹었어요. 인테리어도 모던한 배 데코레이션에 메뉴도 다양하게 시켰는데 다 맛있었어요. 그런데 음식이 좀 짠 편이었어요.

After lunch, we walked through Pike Place Market and stopped by the famous French bakery Le Panier, since there was almost no line. We bought several pastries — their pistachio éclair is popular, but my husband loves the lemon tart.

다 먹은 후 간단히 파이크 플레이스 마켓 구경을 하고 유명한 프렌치 빵집 Le Panier 에 줄이 별로 안서있어서 이때다 하고 들어가서 다양한 페이스트리를 샀어요. 여기는 피스타치오 에클레르가 유명합니다. 제 남편은 레몬 타르트를 좋아해요.

On our way home, the weather was gray and chilly, and we all felt sleepy and cozy after a full day of exploring. But spending this kind of day together — walking, eating, discovering new things — made me so happy.
Next time, we’re planning to come back with Leo’s friends too!

즐겁게 다같이 구경하고 집에 돌아가는 길, 날이 흐리고 추워서 배부르고 등따시니 노곤하더라구요. 그래도 이렇게 온 가족이 다같이 나와서 구경도 하고 추억을 만들어서 너무 행복했어요. 다음에는 리오 친구들과 같이 오려구요.
